Cabin in the Woods, Newfane VT
Once they discovered “How to Build a Log Cabin in the Woods”, the rest was history!
Bill and his wife Graciela began building their off-the-grid log cabin, in 1980 on a piece of land inherited from Bill’s father. His dad had one stipulation, that the cabin needed to have a stone fireplace to be considered a “real log cabin”. Hence, Bill figured out how to build a stone fireplace! The majority of the cabin was built by Bill and Graciela. Although an old reliable high school friend, Doug would occasionally visit from Canada and lend a hand.
The cabin was built using the trees they felled on Bill’s land. The original cabin had a living room with fireplace, a dining room, a kitchen, and a bedroom. There was an outhouse in the woods. The cabin has grown over time and now has the original living room with fireplace, the same dining room, a newer kitchen, 1.5 indoor bathrooms (a full bath downstairs, and a 1/2 bath upstairs), a second bedroom, 2 new bunk areas and a new porch.
Simple tools to make a “simple” home.

Indoor plumbing, finally! This non-functioning toilet was in the Cabot Lodge home. The owners had it replaced, and gave this broken one to Bill. He fixed it, and put in in the cabin. Where’s Bill? OMG, he fell in! …and whose boots is he wearing?
